First dance is going to be You Make Me Feel Brand New by the Stylistics because I am exactly the kind of guy who will reach into the vault for the right song.
"This is an incomplete list as I mentioned at the top. You may disagree, but you’re wrong."
Love the attitude!
I've been in a few bands that played at weddings - generally the best kind of gig, imo - and the two songs that always went over well were Nick Lowe's "I Knew The Bride" and "Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You" by Frankie Valli (the latter being a request from the groom, who actually got up and sang it with us!).
My daughter is getting married in September, and I need to come up with a father-daughter dance number. So far everything I've suggested has been unequivocally denied. So if anybody's got any suggestions, I'm all yours.
Stacy's Mom doesn't usually come to mind as a song to avoid, but when the bride is named Stacy and best man is far from sober, it should have been on the list!
I had to read the “Tears in Heaven” snippet to my partner and we both cried laughing. Just NOOOO.
I fucking hate the Cha-Cha Slide so much and I’m glad someone else finally admits publicly that it is terrible. I would rather do the Electric Slide 10 times in a row than hear that song EVER AGAIN.
Jason, I am disappointed. 😂 Where is the Barry White? Specifically Your the first, last, my everything. You want to talk banger for a wedding...that would be my go to. I would also add The Way You Look Tonight by Frank and All The Way.
I went to a wedding in the late 90s where the first dance was to "Medium Pace" (speaking of Adam Sandler). This probably goes without saying, but they did not stay married 😂.
They’re going to play the Macarena because even the drunk uncle can dance to it.
My faves, in no particular order….
Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You - Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons. Pop perfection with a vocal performance for the ages.
That’s the Way of the World - Earth, Wind, and Fire - one of THE great American bands and a gorgeously arranged song that you can dance to. Hearts of Fire create love’s desire….
Golden Lady - Stevie Wonder at his finest. Nothing else need be said.
Beyond the Sea - Bobby Darrin. One of the great big band vocalists of all time.
I LOVE THIS! I’d add to the
“This does not mean what you think - please listen to more than the chorus list”
I will always love you.
ITS A BREAK UP SONG
JUST STOP
Such a valid fucking point!

My dad actually mentioned that as well, and I agree. It’s top tier.

It’s For My Dad - Nancy Sinatra
Isn’t She Lovely - Stevie Wonder
Sweet Pea - Amos Lee
You Are the Best Thing - Ray LaMontagne
Tiny Dancer - Elton John
You Are the Best Thing - Ray LaMontagne ❤️❤️❤️
You have anything a little more punk or not so normal?
Punk Rock Girl - Dead Milkmen
100 Years - Five For Fighting
Weightless - All Time Low
Primadonna - Marina and the Diamonds
The Middle - Jimmy Eat World
Welcome to the Black Parade - My Chemical Romance
Dance, Dance - Fall Out Boy

Neither Stacy nor her mom were impressed.
YIKES!

Those are very valid.

Oh. Dear. LAWD!

Absolute killers all
Unquestionably
I’ll put up with “Celebration” and be grateful that the theoretical couple aren’t stupid enough to play “Too Hot” instead.
My First dance…and a song I think should be on your list: Never Tear Us Apart-INXS.
Fucking excellent in every way.
Spot on with all of these!
Boom!
Lovely stuff - great read!
