For context, I'm a pro guitar player. I've mostly played jazz and other styles in more recent years, but I've spent many hundreds of hours playing AC/DC's classics as a kid – as you do –, and almost as many teaching teens and tweens the swashbuckling intricacies of the Young brothers' guitar parts. Even though they played the shit out of those guitars, openly enjoying AC/DC as a grown-ass adult crosses over into guilty pleasure territory once you've been pro for a while. You're not supposed to like this. It WILL get you some side-eye. That is, unless you're talking to other guitar players who GET IT, haha.
Anyway, it's 2024, the world's imploding, and I can no longer be bothered to care. There's an earnest straightforwardness to AC/DC's music that many bands, regardless of genre, couldn't shake a sad stick at. What you hear is what you get, no more, no less. In my book, there's something timeless – dare I even say “wholesome,” if you can forget that many of these are strip bar classics, LOL – about simple, no-BS rock 'n' roll played with unwavering conviction, reckless abandon, and straight-up JOY.
Yes.
This is the single most delightful thing I've read on Substack this month. No word of a lie, LOL. Rock and roll!! 🔥🤘🏼🤘🏼🔥
That is incredible praise. Thank you. Let me direct you to my dude J. Curtis.
Who's this dude you speak of? Give him my best.
