Back by Popular Demand - Unforgiven
My mate Dennis had me back on his podcast to discuss the essential 1992 Eastwood film Unforgiven. Dennis and I always have fun conversations and the topics veer from Academy Award snubs and misgivings, Jacques Derrida’s ideas on deconstruction and how they factor into this film, the rebirth of the Western as a film genre, Gene Hackman’s all-around badassery, and the mythology of the American West.
I contend Unforgiven and Goodfellas both effectively ended two film genres, two of my favorite film genres - the Western and the Gangster film. What could possibly be said after those two films? In fact, Eastwood and Scorsese shut the book so hard it would take nearly a decade and long-form television to tell more stories in those genres.
, I even got some love in there for The Midnight Vault. If you enjoy film, Eastwood, Hackman, discussions on deconstruction, and nerds just generally just being nerds, this is for you.
